Statement of Need
The current challenges in managing gout include accurate diagnosis and implementing individualized therapy. There is the additional challenge of monitoring the patient population at risk for comorbidities of hyperuricemia and gout, particularly those with hypertension, chronic kidney disease, or potential effects of cardiovascular disease.
By incorporating clinical case studies, this program will highlight the newest insight on how to best develop a treatment plan that can master the overall therapeutic goals for gout. Topics addressed include benefits of dietary and lifestyle changes, how to appropriately diagnose gout and choose medication, and correct timing of pharmacotherapy for acute and chronic stages. This activity will also discuss the benefit of physician-patient communication to reinforce appropriate and effective management.
Expert faculty will guide clinicians through these key pearls and provide room for discussion on the latest evidence-based literature. Educational tools on implementing these evidence-based recommendations for gout into everyday practice will also be provided.
