You Are Invited to a Complimentary CE Dinner Symposium
Epidemiologic studies commonly point to an increased prevalence of functional bowel disorders in women. Confirming a functional bowel diagnosis in women is often extremely difficult. In many cases, issues specific to women, such as menstruation or other gynecologic symptoms, obscure the diagnosis. Despite recent advances in diagnostic criteria for irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and other functional bowel disorders, no specific biologic biomarker, physiologic abnormality, or anatomic defect has been discovered, which leaves clinicians to make a diagnosis based almost solely on a patient’s symptoms. Patient and health care provider communication is very important when diagnosing and managing these patients.
In light of recent therapeutic changes, one of the biggest challenges in treating functional bowel disorders is the lack of available therapies. There are emerging therapies for women that hold promise. With such an ever-changing landscape, it is imperative that the gastroenterology nurse stay up-to-date on recent developments because of the pivotal role he or she plays in the diagnosis and management of functional bowel disorders.
This case-based, interactive symposium will provide contemporary approaches to help Take a Stand Against Functional Bowel Disorders in Women.
